On the point of being a regional parry, the GOP.. I do a lot of work on rural health, and I have wondered for a while... the Democrats used to do well in rural areas back when FDR was President, Truman up until the 1960s or 1970s. But now rural areas and almost exclusively, overwhelmingly GOP. Why did this happen? What did the Democrats do to lose rural America or the GOP to win it?
